Our theme in Pre School last week was the story of ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ by Rhonda and David Armitage. To immerse ourselves in the story we made our own sandwiches for snack time, we designed and built a lighthouse play area with a boat and seagulls and we made the sea out of tissue paper and fabrics.
The children’s role play in this area led to some interesting discussions about how the lunch could travel to the lighthouse, how we could rescue people from the sea and why lighthouses are important. Edward chose to be the sea, which developed into a rather large tsunami and an interest in what these were. The children also enjoyed learning about buoys and how they sounded like boys but were quite different!
