Sport

As with our academic work, the school places emphasis on children’s enjoyment and participation in a wide range of physical activities. Specialist coaches are used to help children develop the skills necessary for sporting success – sport is an integral part of school life.

We believe it to be important that emphasis is placed not merely on the training of the natural athlete but that every effort is made to help the less skilful enjoy taking a full part in sporting activities. Boys and girls take part in all sports in equal measure. The children are also encouraged to lead healthy, active lives on and off the sporting field for example all snacks, and in particular all meals prepared in our kitchen are healthy and varied and children always have a choice of salad.

All classes have weekly P.E. (indoor sports), Games (outdoor sports) and swimming lessons. The principal school games during the Autumn and Spring Terms are Football and Netball. In the Summer Term, a very full programme of Athletics, Rounders and Cricket is undertaken and, as well as track skills, children are instructed in the use of Javelin, Discus, Shot and High Jump.

The school not only offers an extensive range of lessons during school time, but offers additional sports clubs after school including Judo, Golf and Tennis.
